One of my aunts in Thailand is a seamstress and before she retired, I worked with her to design several bespoke pieces for myself in Thai silk. This green-gold skirt with paper bag pleats at the waist is one of my favorites.
Thai silk can range from heavy and nubby to light broadcloth; it’s commonly woven as a douppioni, meaning there are two different colors of thread. Thai silk usually has a fine black warp thread, which makes the color shimmer and shift in the light.
In this skirt, the black thread gives the green-gold a cool-toned shading. For that reason, I paired it with this grey silk blouse from Everlane. There’s a nice contrast between the stiff silk skirt and the loose drape of the top.
I wanted to accent the black warp thread in the skirt with black shoes and a black blazer.
The wool flannel jacket rounds out the softness of the look, and I really like the casual-luxe feel of these velvet Petalo slippers by M. Gemi – read my review of them, and other M. Gemi styles, here.
I love the way the gold and grey play off each other in tone in texture, anchored by the black. Can I wear this all fall?
