Photo taken the week I was testing Onekind.
I’m a big proponent of clean, non-toxic skincare with thoughtful ingredients. So when the Onekind team reached out to me this summer, I was super interested in trying their products. They sent me four to try – here are reviews of the Onekind skincare moisturizer, mask, facial oil, and an an-yet unreleased vitamin C and E serum.

About the brand
Onekind skincare is a new brand that says it’s “every bit as luxe, clean and effective as la crème but at an affordable price.” Individual products range from $26-$44, though you can shave off a few dollars with their option to subscribe to products, or by purchasing multiple items in a set.
As an example, Onekind’s Dream Cream Nighttime Moisturizer costs $38, which is definitely less costly than other buzzy squalane moisturizers like Alpyn Beauty’s PlantGenius Melt Moisturizer and Biossance’s Squalane + Omega Repair Cream, though still much pricier than The Ordinary’s Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA.
So how do their products stack up? Read on for my experience with the products I sampled and how they performed.
Dream Cream Nighttime Moisturizer
What Onekind says: A fast-absorbing, non-greasy cream that locks in moisture and combats signs of aging. Results in dewy, glowing skin when you wake up. Its secret ingredients – squalane for long-lasting hydration, rosehip oil to brighten, and chamomile, aloe vera, and barley seed soothe irritation from environmental stressors.
My take: This cream felt thick and luxurious as I rubbed it in, and absorbed to a clean, matte finish that wasn’t greasy at all. I’m a big fan of squalane as a skincare ingredient. Often derived from olive oil, squalane is a hydrogenated version of squalene, a compound produced naturally by the skin’s sebaceous glands. As a result, squalane mirrors the skin’s protective barrier. Squalane has always been a hero ingredient for me, and this stuff is full of it. When I woke up, my skin looked plump, smooth, and healthy, and these results were consistent over 10 days of using my sample (I ended up applying it during the day as well as at night).
Final verdict: It delivers on what Onekind promises.
Pore-fectionist Refining Facial
What Onekind says: A triple action face mask designed to purify, exfoliate and brighten the skin, named ‘Best Face Mask’ in the 2020 Glamour Beauty Awards by Glamour magazine editors. Its secret ingredients – salicylic acid unclogs congested pores, pink kaolin and bentonite clays detox deeply, while lactic acid gently brightens dull, uneven skin.
My take: I’m skeptical of any product that claims to do three things really well, but I was very impressed by this mask. My sample only lasted about five uses, so I can’t comment on its long-term pore unclogging performance yet, but the combination of purifying clay and exfoliating gentle acids is clutch. I found it gentle enough for daily use, and noticed an immediate difference in my pores and skin surface quality after each use. A great daily go-to product!
Final verdict: This mask definitely brightens and refines the look of pores after a handful of uses. I’ll have to report back on its “unclogging” claims after longer-term use.
Glow Getter Vitamin C and E Serum
What Onekind says: A Vitamin C and E serum with ferulic and hyaluronic acids to seriously brighten skin and fight signs of aging. Vitamin C brightens dark spots, while vitamin E and ferulic acid are antioxidants. Hyaluronic acid plumps and moisturizes by attracting water to the surface of the skin.
My take: I was super excited to be part of the beta test team for this as-yet unreleased serum. I’ve tried several Vitamin C serums recently, in an effort to brighten some dark spots that resulted from work-induced stress breakouts at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hands down this one performed the best – I actually used it on my face, décolleté, and back, (overkill? nah.) and saw improvements in all three areas – fewer clogged pores, and a more even skin tone. Now I just have to wait to get my hands on a full-size product…
Final verdict: I need this serum, stat.
9/15 Update: Golden State Nourishing Facial Oil
What Onekind says: This brand new facial oil is touted as a blend of more than 20 all-natural oils and extracts formulated to brighten skin, smooth lines and scarring, all while soothing and preventing breakouts. Sounds like magic in a bottle!
My take: This facial oil smells way different from the others I’ve tried – it’s earthy, zingy, and natural, with the scent coming from the ginger oil that’s one of its ingredients. It’s a refreshing change from added fragrances and I like it a lot. I was instantly impressed with how the oil absorbs into my skin super fast and doesn’t leave me looking like an oil slick. (This means I’ve been able to use it in the morning under my SPF and at night, plus I don’t worry about my pillow getting greasy). It leaves behind a beautiful natural glow just like it claims, and I don’t even feel the need to add a dusting of translucent powder during the day! After steady use I’m completely won over – it’s light, moisturizing, layers well, and dare I say – lives up to its claims about smoothing fine lines and preventing breakouts. I love how my skin looks and I didn’t have one zit the whole time I used this oil. Now that’s magic.
Final verdict: This oil is a keeper.
After about two weeks of using my deluxe samples, I am seriously impressed with Onekind’s non-toxic, fragrance-free products that hold up to all their claims. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on more full-size products.
