I love a good silk *insert any article of clothing here* but having to hand wash these pieces can make me hesitate to wear them every day. So when I finally splurged on one of Lunya’s washable silk pajama sets, it was like a match made in heaven – all the luster, softness, and breathability of quality silk, with the ease of throwing it all in the washing machine. You can read my review here. I’ve been wearing them non-stop, so you know I couldn’t just have one piece, right? Enter the Lunya washable silk robe – read on for a breakdown of its thoughtful design.

The washable silk
A silk robe is a lounge-around-the-house indulgence I’ve had on my wishlist quite literally forever. But most of them are a letdown because either the fabric is cheap and flimsy, or the price is exorbitant, or both. Lunya has this sussed. Their washable silk is thick, sturdy, opaque, and beautiful – their pieces are pricey, yes, but nowhere near as expensive as some other high-end brands (I’m looking at you, Fleur du Mal and your $300 robes without pockets, and $600 “kimonos”…)
The verdict: Lunya’s washable silk fabric is top notch and worth the price.

The pockets
After quality fabric at an indulgent-but-not-astronomical-price, next on my silk robe wishlist was pockets. After all, what good is a robe without pockets? Whether it’s my cell phone, a tissue, or my toothbrush as I sleepily stumble downstairs to make coffee, pockets are essential. Lunya’s aren’t too shallow either – my phone fits in there comfortably.
The verdict: Pockets are on point.

The elastic sleeves
Beyond the beautiful, washable fabric and deep, functional pockets – we have to talk about the sleeves. I have never in my life come across a robe of any kind with such perfect sleeves. Lunya adds a thick band of elastic to each cuff, so you can easily push up each sleeve while you wash your face, rinse out a coffee cup etc. – there’s nothing to it. It might even be my favorite part of this robe, and not even a feature originally on my wish list!
My only (slight) gripe is that I have very narrow wrists/forearms so the elastic only stays put for me if I push it up to my elbow. Most other ladies should be able to enjoy a wide range of adjustable sleeve lengths.
The verdict: I adore this unexpected functional detail.
The closure
There’s one little feature that isn’t 100% perfect, though it might be a detail no one else notices (or cares about). The robe’s exterior tie is very thin, and at the back is encased in a very wide casing. I wish the tie was wider and more ribbon-like, and integrated into the body of the robe, as it feels out of proportion with the wide elastic sleeves.
The verdict: Functionally it’s all gravy, but aesthetically I think the ties could look more upscale and balanced with the overall silhouette.
So is the Lunya washable silk robe worth it?
The Lunya washable silk robe is about 95% perfect in my eyes, with its extremely thoughtful design features – from the pockets and sleeve elastic, to more subtle details like an interior and exterior tie, and flattering darts around the bust that shape the robe to your body.
Overall, the Lunya washable silk robe met all my criteria for quality, functionality, and design. This is a beautiful, luxe robe that makes me feel like a million bucks when I wear it – plus it’s machine washable and made to last. I adore the elasticized sleeves (+100 points) but see room for improvement in the thin drawstring (-5 points). Ultimately, yes, I say the robe is worth it. I love wearing mine and it feels sexy and functional all at once.
Final verdict: I love this robe, but I the drawstring design could be better. In general I’m a big fan of Lunya’s washable silk fabric, so I’m definitely going to check out other pieces in this line – I’m just waiting for them to bring back their limited edition pale lilac color!

Hype Check: Is Lunya Washable Silk Sleepwear Really Worth It?
Hi There,
I am reaching out because I am considering the Lunya Washable Silk Robe which you provided a great review on. I just wanted to ask if you wouldn’t mine sharing how tall are you? My wife is about 5’1 and I was debating the silk robe or “The Robe” by Lunya. Some people have posted comments on the robe saying it is too long and they needed to hem it (followed a Lunya instructional video) and the hemming was disastrous…To avoid that I am considering the silk robe which seems to look shorter.
Thanks for any info you can provide!
Brandon
Hi Brandon, thanks for your question! I’m 5′ 5″ and the silk robe hits me right above the knees. I like that it looks good with shorts, pants, or a nightgown underneath. I haven’t tried “The Robe” yet, but if I ever do I’ll be sure to do a comparison of their lengths. I hope that’s helpful; I’m sure your wife will love whatever you choose for her! That’s such a sweet gift 🙂
