Lunya’s Modern Twist On The Silk Button-Down Sleep Set

Reinventing old classics is a mainstay of the fashion world. One wardrobe staple – the silk button-down sleep set – has been re-envisioned by Lunya to be totally au courant. With high-waisted pants and a cropped (but not too cropped) blouse, Lunya’s version is modern and a little edgy without being overly youthful. Proof – I bought a set for my mother-in-law for Christmas and not only does she love it – my father-in-law instantly started calling her Zsa Zsa Gabor! Possible the highest compliment a pj set could get. But let’s break it down. I’m a big fan of Lunya sleepwear (read my other reviews here), so here are all my thought’s on their (relatively new) Washable Silk High Rise Pant Set.

The fit

This set is described as having an easy fit, but I find the pants quite fitted in the waist in an XS, my typical size. They hit at the natural waist, are fairly defined in the booty, and have a 29” inseam that hit me perfectly at the ankle bone at 5’5”. These fit smaller in the waist than the pants in Lunya’s other sets, like the Washable Silk Tee Pant Set.

The cropped top hits just below the top of the pants, creating a modest silhouette without baring any belly, unless you raise your arms high. It has a wide, boxy cut that looks alarming when you initially unfold it, but drapes nicely and is flattering on.

The details

I thought I would hate the leg vents on Lunya’s pants, which slit up almost to the knee, but I found that they’re quite functional. They keep me cool at night, and are actually a very pretty detail as well, showing off a little leg when sitting or walking. They do not get in the way of walking around or going up and down stairs.

Another feature I love – this set has three pockets! Two in the pants, and one chest pocket in the shirt. Perfect for a spare tissue, my phone as I shuffle around the house in the morning, or the occasional night cookie. Just kidding about the last one, crumbs in bed is a big no-no…

A silk button-down sleep set is always a classic, updated here for 2022 – and beyond.

The color

As soon as I saw Lunya released this limited edition set with artist Kristen Giorgi, I jumped on it! it’s such a beautiful graphic print, inspired by the beauty of the feminine form. I also own this set in last year’s holiday color, Fancy Burgundy. Every year Lunya drops a holiday color mid-fall, and in limited quantities. When you see it, you have to act fast – it sells out quickly.

Word to the wise, my burgundy set is not 100% colorfast. I know pink and red silks tend to bleed a bit, so I washed it by hand the first time and it turned the water purplish-pinkish, so be careful what you launder it with. I gently rolled the set in a clean towel to absorb excess moisture, and then popped it in the dryer on gentle/cool air for 20 minutes. I dry all my Lunya Washable Silk pjs this way, and haven’t seen any shrinkage. Plus they come out of the dryer without wrinkles, so no need to iron if you hang them up quickly!

The verdict

10/10 across all areas. The proportions of the tailoring/fit and the details are all spot on. However, ladies who need a different size on the top or bottom may struggle with this set, as the pants are quite fitted in the waist and the top is very loose.

    Hi,
thank you for the extensive Lunya pj reviews, I just got two sets and I love them. I have a long sleeve pant set in Otium Tan and a bias slip in deep blue. In my experience, the slip is amazing – the fabric is substantial for silk, thicker than I expected and when I wake up, there is not much wrinkling. For the long sleeve pant set, however, the fabric is thinner, and it is heavily wrinkled before I even get to bed just by wearing it. How is your wrinkle experience with other sets (I’m interested in how do they look in the morning)?

    Thank you 🙂

Hi! I find all the washable silk sets have the same fabric thickness and quality. They wrinkle more when it’s warm and humid out, otherwise they still look pretty good in the morning. I like to put mine in the dryer on gentle to fluff out the fabric. Then I never need to iron them either!
