Wearing the Lunya Slumberknit™ long sleeve pant set in Tranquil Blue.

Founded in 2014, Lunya has made a name for itself with its signature washable silk sleepwear that brought low-maintenance luxury to home-bound millennials deprived of slick international vacations in 2020 and 2021. I fell in love with Lunya early on because of their natural fabrics and silk blends, like linen-silk, cotton-silk, and alpaca. This year Lunya added a new fabric, Slumberknit™, made with a cooling blend of Tencel, organic cotton, and spandex.

The Slumberknit™ long sleeve pant set is Lunya’s most classic “pj” set to-date, and it also has the friendliest price point at $178. I got to try the set as part of the product launch; read on for my honest review.

About Lunya

There’s something truly chic about a matching pajama set – especially one that claims it will help you sleep better. Pure nonsense? No, says sleepwear brand Lunya, whose cheeky tagline, “Good in bed,” pops up everywhere on social media. You’ve probably seen the brand hyped up on Instagram, TikTok, in your favorite fashion magazine, and more. So what’s their deal?

Lunya’s sleepwear and intimates, “are crafted to make you feel confidently comfortable in your most intimate space — the bedroom,” says their website. “Being a modern woman can be complicated. We’re here to simplify — we know lots of things keep you up at night; what you sleep in shouldn’t be one of them. Cue slow raising of the hand – I’m exactly the kind of person who likes feeling put together at all times, and appreciates anything that makes bedtime (and weekend mornings) feel a little extra special.

The Slumberknit™ fabric

My first impression of the Slumberknit™ fabric was that it had a lovely, squishy handfeel – almost like a marshmallow. The knit is thicker and heavier than other Lunya fabrics, but just as airy. Lunya describes it as, “buttery soft and perfectly weighted,” which I have to agree with.

With that said, it doesn’t feel quite as luxurious as other Lunya fabrics, like their organic pima cotton that I’m obsessed with (read my review here), classic washable silk (review here), or cozy cotton silk (review here). It’s soft and lovely, yet also feels like something I could get somewhere else, at a lower price point. Which makes sense in terms of Lunya extending its product line to appeal to the customers looking for an elevated set in this kind of fabric.

I have a little bit of a concern about how well the fabric will wear over time and if it will start to pill. A few years ago I invested in Cozy Earth’s ultra-soft bamboo pullover crew and jogger pants (which feel similar to this set but actually cost a lot more), and they pilled after just a few times in the wash. I’ll update this page as I learn more.

The fit and the details

The Slumberknit™ long sleeve pant set fits similarly to Lunya’s washable silk high-waist pant set (review here). The pants sit high on the waist while the button-down has a boxy cut that hangs away from the body. I took my normal size XS and it fit perfectly, with a little cling in the booty. The pants are definitely more figure-skimming than other Lunya pant styles.

With a long-sleeve set like this one, I tend to like a cuff so I can push up the arms, which this set does not have. It’s a little functional detail that Lunya is normally so good at adding.

Another detail I’m not a fan of is the thin elastic at the waistline. I put this set on one night after an especially large dinner, and they didn’t make me feel great in the middle. I immediately changed into my beloved organic pima cotton wide-leg pants, which magically makes food babies disappear.

I did like the fabric-covered buttons on the top, which make it softer and cozier than large plastic buttons would have. The tonal details also elevate the look of the whole set.

The verdict

While cute and certainly comfortable to sleep in, the Lunya Slumberknit™ long sleeve pant set is not my favorite from Lunya. There are a few misses on key details like the cuffs and the waistband that made this a no for me, especially when the brand has so many other clear winners on offer. I highly recommend you spend a bit more and get yourself the organic pima cotton wide leg pants and long-sleeve top instead. Read about why I’m obsessed with them here.
